        • A Joint Venture, Called Melt Cognition LLC, Has Been Formed to Sell ERCo’s LIBS Instruments to the Metals Industry (April 2007)

The joint venture consists of ERCo, wTe Corporation (Bedford, MA), and Materials Strategies, Inc. (West Boylston, MA). Melt Cognition will first focus on the aluminum industry, using LIBS for process control during secondary and primary aluminum alloying.  The LIBS instrument allows faster process times and improved melt chemistry control, which results in increased production, reduced energy use, and tighter melt chemistry tolerances.  Other benefits include reduced labor and reduced flux consumption.  The principals associated with Melt Cognition are:

Dr. David Spencer (wTe Corporation), Prof. Diran Apelian (MSI and the Metal Processing Institute at WPI), and Robert De Saro, President of ERCo. For more information, contact Robert De Saro of ERCo.
